What Is The Main Application Range Of Resistance Welding?

Using the resistance heat energy generated by the current passing through the contact surface of the weldment joint and the adjacent area, the metal to be welded is heated to a local melting or high temperature plastic state, and the process of forming a firm welded joint under the action of external force is called resistance welding. Compared with arc welding, resistance welding has the following two characteristics:

(1) High thermal efficiency. In arc welding, heat energy is conducted from the outside to the weldment with the help of an external concentrated heat source; while resistance welding is the conduction of resistance heat from the high temperature area to the low temperature area, which belongs to the internal heat source. Therefore, the thermal energy loss is relatively small, and the thermal efficiency is relatively high.

(2) The welds are dense. Generally, the weld of arc welding is solidified and crystallized under normal pressure, while the weld of resistance welding is solidified and crystallized under the action of external pressure. It has the characteristics of forging and belongs to the category of pressure welding, so it is easier to avoid shrinkage, Defects such as porosity and cracks are eliminated to obtain dense welds.

The welding joint form of resistance welding is limited, but the components suitable for resistance welding are still very wide, such as aircraft fuselage, automobile body, bicycle steel ring, various anchor chains, washing machine, refrigerator shell, etc. Resistance welding is also suitable for a wide range of materials, not only can weld low alloy steel, low carbon steel, but also can weld various other alloy steels and non-ferrous metals and alloys such as aluminum and copper.
